COMMISSION ON FILIPINO OVERSEAS |

FUNCTION
The Commission on
Filipinos Overseas was created by law on 16 June 1980. Formerly
under the Office of the President, the commission was transferred
to the DFA in 1991. It is tasked to:
-
Establish a data
bank on Filipino emigrants;
-
Provide advice
and assistance to the President of the Philippines and
the legislative branch in the formulation of policies and
measures affecting Overseas Filipino Workers;
-
Formulate in
coordination with agencies concerned, an integrated program
for the promotion of the welfare of OFWs with respect to their
interest and activities in the Philippines.

Initiate and
directly undertake the implementation of special projects and
programs whenever necessary to promote the welfare of OFWs
with respect to their interest and activities in the
Philippines;

Serve as a forum
for preserving and enhancing the social, economic and cultural
ties of Filipinos overseas with their motherland; and
-
Provides liaison
services to OFWs with appropriate government and private
agencies in the transaction of business and similar ventures
in the Philippines.
