FUNCTION
The
Office of the Middle East and African Affairs (OMEAA) assists the
Secretary in the conduct of foreign relations and bilateral
activities with the countries in the Middle East and Africa. It is
directly under the supervision of the Undersecretary for Policy.
OMEAA
has four geographic divisions, namely:
Division 1 –
(Middle East) covers Iraq, Lebanon, Syria, Iran, Israel,
Palestine, and Jordan;
Division
2 – (Gulf States) covers Bahrain, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, Saudi
Arabia, United Arab Emirates, Yemen, the Organization of the
Islamic Conference (OIC), Hajj Pilgrimage, and the Gulf
Cooperation Council (GCC);
Division
3 - (Sub-Saharan Africa) covers Nigeria and all the countries to
which the Philippine Ambassador in Abuja is accredited, namely:
Benin, Burkina Faso, Cameroon, Cape Verde, Central African
Republic, Congo, Cote d’Ivoire, Equatorial Guinea, Gabon, Ghana,
Guinea-Bissau, Liberia, Sao Tome & Principe, Senegal, Sierra
Leone, Togo; Kenya and all the countries to which our Ambassador
in Nairobi is accredited, namely: Democratic Republic of Congo
(formerly Zaire), Burundi, Comoros, Djibouti, Eritrea, Ethiopia,
Madagascar, Malawi, Mauritius, Rwanda, Seychelles, Somalia,
Tanzania, Uganda; and South Africa and all the countries to which
the Philippine Ambassador in Pretoria is accredited, namely,
Angola, Botswana, Lesotho, Mozambique, Namibia, Swaziland, Zambia,
and Zimbabwe.
Division
4 – (North Africa) covers Egypt, and Sudan to which the
Philippine Ambassador in Cairo is accredited; Libya, and all those
countries to which the Philippine Ambassador in Tripoli is
accredited, namely: Algeria, Chad, Mali, Malta, Mauritania, Niger,
and Tunisia; and Morocco, which is under the jurisdiction of the
Philippine Embassy in Madrid.
