The Philippine Government welcomes the release of Aung San Suu Kyi from house arrest as a positive step towards the attainment of political reconciliation, unity, and economic progress in Myanmar.

The Philippine Government lauds this move by Myanmar.  The Philippine Government is confident that it will help build greater international confidence in the leadership of Myanmar and reap significant benefits for this fellow ASEAN country's efforts to secure the assistance and cooperation of its neighbors, as well as the international community at large, in its efforts towards national development.

This development augurs well for ASEAN, as a whole, for it signifies the region's determination to forge ahead, individually and collectively, with the needed political and economic reforms to attain progress and stability.
