Statement of

DR. ALBERTO G. ROMULO
Secretary of Foreign Affairs

On the 11 July 2006 Mumbai blasts

The Philippine Government and people join the international community in condemning in the strongest terms the series of explosions that rocked several commuter lines in Mumbai.

These cowardly acts of violence are a direct assault on India and the entire community of nations and deserve no place in the civilized world.

The coordination and precision with which these acts of terror were carried out are indicative of the perverse intent and criminal minds of the perpetrators.

The Filipino people share the tremendous grief of our brothers and sisters in India and convey our deepest sympathies for the irreplaceable loss of loved ones, family and friends to the blasts.

We hope for the speedy recovery of those whose lives were drastically altered by the bombings even as we express confidence that the perpetrators of these deplorable deeds will be identified and brought before the bar of justice soon.

During this time of great sorrow, the Philippines stands firmly behind India.  Together with peace stakeholders in the world, we remain undaunted, strongly committed and ready to assist in the sustained international campaign to combat terrorism in all its forms.   END
