 On the terrorist plot to blow up aircrafts Bound for the United States 
11 August 2006 

            The Philippines joins the international community in expressing relief over the discovery and thwarting of a terrorist plot to blow up aircrafts from the United Kingdom bound for the United States. 

            This latest incident underscores the need for the community of nations to remain ever vigilant in the face of the continued threat posed by individuals and groups who resort to terrorist acts to achieve their dastardly ends.  

            Such cowardly elements have no place in civilized and tolerant societies committed to the principles of peace, freedom and the rule of law. 

            In congratulating the British authorities for their successful handling of the situation, the Philippines likewise reaffirms its commitment to the global campaign against terrorism. 

            The vigor and single-mindedness with which these terrorists pursue their goals are matched and will be overcome by the more resolute efforts of the international community to ensure that the scourge of terrorism shall one day be swept away from the annals of history.  END
