On
the President as one of the key participants
in
the World Economic Forum, Davos, 25-26 January 2006
5 January 2006
At the start of every year, key global
leaders, chairpersons and chief executives of the world's top corporations and
eminent members of international media, the academe and civil society gather in
Davos, Switzerland to share their insights and discuss the economic issues and
developments that shape our world.
This year, H.E. President Gloria Macapagal
Arroyo, upon the invitation of the organizers, will join this group of global
decision and opinion makers at the World Economic Forum Annual Meeting on 25-26
January.
At the heart of their discussion is how
best to move forward in Shaping the Global Agenda, the theme for this
year's annual meeting.
In particular, on the 26th of
January, the President will be the lead speaker on the topic "ASEAN's
Economic Roadmap", where she will be joined by distinguished panelists
among whom are the Prime Ministers of Malaysia and Vietnam.
The President, in another session, also on
the 26th of January, will in turn be a panelist on the topic "ASEAN's
Diplomatic Agenda".
The President will bring to these two
sessions the political and economic momentum garnered by the ASEAN Summit.
She will actively participate in these two
sessions as the President of a country that is steadily strengthening its
economic fundamentals, that is firmly and effectively on the road to economic
reform, that is resolutely committed to fair and open trade and that is
continuing to gain the trust and confidence of the international business and
economic community.
As the current Chair of ASEAN, the
President will also be representing a region that is committed to working
closely together to create the opportunities for greater wealth, growth and
progress, that is dynamic and that is the focus of attention of global business
and investors.
While in Davos, the president is also
scheduled to meet with a number of leading international businessmen and
investors.
The President's participation in this year's World Economic Forum is an important and significant opportunity to present to the world the economic prospects that the Philippines and the Southeast Asian region have to offer to global business and financiers. END
