STATEMENT
OF SENATE PRESIDENT FRANKLIN M. DRILON
ON
THE ABDUCTION OF U.N. VOLUNTEER ANGELITO NAYAN
02
November 2004
The Senate recognizes the support and cooperation extended by President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo and the Department of Foreign Affairs on the initiatives taken by the United Nations to seek an early and safe release of Angelito Nayan and two (2) other UN volunteers. Mr. Nayan has volunteered his services to the UN to ensure that democracy succeeds in Afghanistan. We must therefore support the efforts of the international community to seek the safe return of these UN workers. I urge our political leaders and the media to cooperate in fulfilling the United Nation’s request for information restraint. This crisis involves not just one, but three lives including that of our very own compatriot. It calls for statesmanship regardless of political persuasion and prudence on the part of our media.
In
solidarity with the Nayan Family and the International Community, let us
pray for Angelito and his two companions so that they may return home safely
at the soonest possible time. END.
