STATEMENT
OF
THE
HONORABLE ALBERTO G. ROMULO
SECRETARY
OF FOREIGN AFFAIRS
21
DECEMBER 2004, DFA MEDIA ROOM
RE : ROBERT TARONGOY
We reiterate our appeal to the abductors of our fellow Filipino, Mr. Robert Tarongoy, to set him free in the spirit of compassion and humanitarian concern especially at this very important time of the year. The wife and other family members of Mr. Tarongoy hope and pray that those holding Robert would see it in their hearts the sense of brotherhood and understanding for a simple man whose only purpose in Iraq is to earn a living for his family.
The Department, its Crisis Management Team and Team Iraq continue the work for the safe release of Robert.
As we remain committed to secure the freedom of our fellow countryman, we in the Department have high hopes that our efforts would bring positive results in the end.
But what is definite is that the resources and manpower of the Department are in place and will be directed for the safe release of Robert. This is in accordance with the mandate and instructions of the Department in relation to our OFWs.
As
we continue our work, I invite everyone to join in fervent prayer for the
success of our unceasing effort to reunite Robert with his family. END
