11 May 2011 - The Philippine Consulate General in Macau warned prospective overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) against job offers from individuals claiming to be appointed agents of Galaxy Entertainment Group, the operator of a large, new hotel in Macau.

In a report to the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA), the Consulate said that it received a letter from Galaxy, stating that there have been cases of fraud involving recruitment of workers by individuals claiming to be appointed agents of the entertainment group.

These individuals illegally recruit workers on Galaxy's behalf and promise applicants that they will be hired by the company to work in its facilities in Macau.

The company reported that it has never appointed any other agent, other than IKON Solutions Asia, Inc., to recruit staff on their behalf in the Philippines.

Galaxy said that until further notice, any purported recruitment in the Philippines on their behalf other than those undertaken by IKON Solutions Asia, Inc. is unauthorized and it will not take any responsibility for the said job offers.

The Consulate warns the public of the scam, and to contact and seek proper advice before committing money to anyone they meet recruiting them for overseas jobs.

Likewise, the DFA strongly advises the public to first verify the veracity of job offers overseas with the Philippine Overseas Employment Administration (POEA) before committing to them. END
