7 June 2012 - The Philippine Consulate General in New York and the Philippine Center Management Board (PCMB) jointly organized an exhibit of works by the famous Blanco Family of artists from Angono, Rizal on 05 June at the Philippine Center Lobby Gallery.
The exhibit is part of this year's celebration of the 114th anniversary of the proclamation of Philippine Independence.
Nurtured and taught by their father, the late patriarch and Filipino Master Jose "Pitok" V. Blanco, the Blanco artistic vision continues to flourish with the works of the second and third generation of Blanco family members: Glen, Noel, Michael, Joy, John, Gay, and Peter Paul and their children.
The Blanco family are best known for their folk realism style, depicting the so-called "Tagalog Pastorale". Many of the subjects of their works are based on the flora and fauna as well as the rituals of rural life in their hometown of Angono, Rizal.
In his Welcome Remarks, Philippine Consul General to New York Mario L. De Leon, Jr. noted that the Consulate and the Philippine Center are proud to display the works of the Blanco Family and through the exhibit share these distinctively Filipino works with a wider audience in New York.
Two of the Blanco Family members, Mr. Peter Paul Blanco and Mrs. Gay Blanco Causapin who came with her family, thanked the Consulate and PCMB for featuring their family for Philippine Independence Month in New York.
In his response on behalf of the family, Peter Paul noted that the Blanco family's commitment to further assisting young artists continues with the establishment of the Blanco Family Academy in Angono. He also invited all the guests to visit the Blanco Family Museum in Rizal during their visits to the Philippines.
Introduced during the program were two of the youngest artist members of the family, Blanco grandchildren and children of Gay Blanco Causapin, Bono (12 years old) and Sean (6 years old), who also showcased their works at the exhibit.

The exhibit "Art by the Blanco Family" runs from June 3 to 15 at the Philippine Center New York. END
