Filipinos in Western China Celebrate Philippine Independence

14 June 2012 - The Philippine Consulate General in Chongqing celebrated the 114th anniversary of the proclamation of Philippine Independence with a lunch gathering of Filipinos in Chongqing and a dinner reception with the Filipino community in Kunming, Yunnan Province.

The event in Kunming was preceded by the Consulate's consular outreach and registration of overseas absentee voting (OAV) applicants.

Both events started with the singing of the Philippine National Anthem followed by a brief message from Philippine Consul General to Chongqing Ma. Amelita C. Aquino and the reading of the messages of President Benigno S. Aquino III and Foreign Affairs Secretary Albert F. del Rosario.

In her message during the two events, the Consul General exhorted Filipinos to unite and   tread the straight and principled path in all their actions. She said that by fulfilling their obligations and responsibilities with excellence in their respective professions, this will show to the world the greatness of our people.

The celebrations were enlivened by musical numbers that spoke of love of country and pride in being Filipino and games that tested knowledge of Philippine historical events and personalities and things Filipino.  Filipino children also contributed song numbers and participated in the flag-making contest.
