15 June 2012- The celebration of the 114th Philippine Independence Day kicked off in Macau Special Administrative Region (SAR) with a flag-raising program held at the Philippine Consulate General last June 12.
The event is seen to usher a series of activities prepared by the Consulate to celebrate the occasion, as well as to realize the country's commitment to the 2012-2013 Philippines-China Year of Friendly Exchanges (YFE).
The flag-raising program, attended by Consulate staff and members of the Filipino Community, was graced by Congressman Maximo B. Dalog who delivered an optimistic and hopeful message, citing the Philippines' accomplishments in the area of good governance and the economy.
Congressman Dalog was in Macau as guest in the 2nd Macau Lang-Ay Festival organized by the Mountain Province Organization (MPO)-Macau Chapter.
Consul General Renato Villapando delivered his own message and the messages of the President and the Secretary of Foreign Affairs, while Labor Attaché Liddy Rasul-Tañedo and Welfare Officer Ramon Pastrana delivered the messages of the Labor Secretary and the Overseas Workers Welfare Office Administrator, respectively.
The Consulate has prepared an array of activities for the month of June as part of its cultural program.
On June 22, the Consulate, in cooperation with The Venetian Hotel and Resort and the Yun Yi Arts and Cultural Communications Association, will hold a concert at The Venetian Theater featuring the prizewinning University of Santo Tomas (UST) Singers.
The Consulate is also supporting the Philippine Independence Day Fiesta organized by the Association of Filipino Pharmacists in Macau and sponsored by Smart Pinoy. The Fiesta will feature a concert by Filipino band True Faith at the Tap Sec Square on June 17. END
