4 July 2012 - The Philippine Consulate General in Barcelona and the city's Filipino community commemorated the anniversary of the proclamation of Philippine Independence last June 10 by organizing a Barrio Fiesta at Parc d'Estacio Nord, Barcelona's second largest park.

The event was attended by Philippine Ambassador to Spain Carlos C. Salinas, and Director for the Citizenry and Institutional Relations of the City Government of Barcelona, Ms. Montserrat Martin Vivas.

Also in attendance were representatives of various Spanish entities whom the Consulate and the Filipino community have been closely working with to advance the interests of Filipinos in the city.

Philippine Consul General to Barcelona Catalino R. Dilem, Jr. read the message of the President to the Filipino people for the momentous occasion while Consul Arman R. Talbo read the message of the Secretary of Foreign Affairs.

Guests were treated to a display of Philippine traditional dresses and showcase of cultural presentations from various regions of the Philippines.  The performers took the opportunity to give homage to all overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) by depicting their experiences and triumph in their cultural presentations.

Thirty-one (31) booths of Filipino companies and entrepreneurs that lined along the event venue were decorated according to the theme, "It's More Fun in the Philippines."

Guests were also offered authentic Filipino cuisine and delicacies from various provinces of the Philippines.

Earlier that day, a basketball and volleyball tournament was held followed by a Palarong Filipino, where contestants had to compete in traditional Filipino games.

The events were organized by the Consulate with the support of the various Filipino organizations and members of the community.  END
