Filipinos in Bangladesh Hold Cultural Night

10 July 2012 - The Philippine Society in Bangladesh (PSB) organized a "Filipino Cultural Show" in commemoration of the 114th anniversary of the proclamation of Philippine Independence at the five-star Radisson Blu Water Garden Hotel in Dhaka on June 22.

Highlighting the event were song and dance presentations that included Aray, Malong Malong, La Jota and Singkil. A fashion show, featuring traditional costumes of the different regions of the Philippines, was also staged.

Dhaka_PE_Indep_2In his remarks, Philippine Ambassador to Bangladesh Bahnarim A. Guinomla said the various Independence Day programs and activities organized by Filipinos in Bangladesh and worldwide are occasions to "show our gratefulness to our country and its heroes, and share our pride with fellow Filipinos and with the communities in the foreign countries we live in."

Diplomats from some Asian and Middle East Missions in Dhaka attended and were delighted by the cultural show.

Egyptian Ambassador Mahmoud Ezzat, in a letter to Ambassador Guinomla, said he "enjoyed this amazing "Filipino Cultural Show" that reminds of happy days I spent in your beautiful country which I consider my second homeland."

Ambassador Guinomla thanked Mr. Noly Pangantihon, president of Philippine Society in Bangladesh (PSB), for the efforts of his group to showcase Philippine Culture. END
