Phl Embassy in Cairo, Filipino Communities in Sudan and South Sudan Commemorate Independence Day

11 July 2012-The Philippine Embassy in Cairo and the Filipino Community commemorated the 114th Philippine Independence Day with the traditional flag-raising ceremony, followed by a merienda cena at the Embassy last June 12.

Cairo_PE_Indep_2Philippine Ambassador to Egypt Claro S. Cristobal led Embassy personnel and the Filipino community in singing the Philippine National Anthem and reciting the Pledge of Allegiance to the Philippine Flag.

Vice Consul Querobine D. Laccay read the message of Foreign Affairs Secretary Albert F. del Rosario.

In his message, the Secretary emphasized that the Department of Foreign Affairs endeavors to advance national security and secure our territorial integrity, effectively address the needs and welfare of overseas Filipinos, and engage in a vigorous campaign to enhance economic diplomacy.

Afterwards, Ambassador Cristobal read the Independence Day Message of President Benigno S. Aquino III.

The President, in his message, called on all Filipinos to uphold the spirit of hope and confidence that complements the momentum of change in our time and to remain proud of our heritage and diversity.

Cairo_PE_Indep_4The Ambassador also delivered his personal message, saying that civic duty is the foundation of a free and peaceful nation.

In Khartoum, Sudan, Filipinos celebrated Independence Day with a traditional flag-raising ceremony. Ms. Angelita Del Rosario, Assistant to the Honorary Consul, read the message of President Aquino while Ms. Iris Rodolfo Chairman of the Association of Filipinos in Sudan (AFS) read the Independence Day Message of Secretary del Rosario.

Cairo_PE_Indep_5Filipinos in Juba, South Sudan also commemorated Independence Day with a simple get-together after hearing mass which was officiated by a Filipino priest. END
