
20 July 2012- The Embassy of the Republic of the Philippines in Phnom Penh, Cambodia commemorated of the 114th anniversary of the proclamation of Philippine Independence with a diplomatic reception and a flag-raising ceremony.
Ambassador Noe A. Wong and Madame Maria Elena L. Wong hosted a diplomatic reception on the evening of June 11 at the Hotel Intercontinental in Phnom Penh with H.E. Khieu Kanharith, Minister of Information of the Kingdom of Cambodia, as guest of honor.
Diplomats, government officials, business persons and friends of the Philippine Embassy were enjoined to partake in a buffet that included Filipino specialties (lechon, adobo, and turon) as they were regaled by the Koro Pilipino (the Philippine Embassy choral group) and Musikawayan, a musical ensemble from Malabon specializing in bamboo instruments. Guests were delighted that Selecta Ice Cream and San Miguel Beer were being served.
A flag-raising ceremony for the Filipino community was held at the Chancery Grounds in the morning of June 12. After communal singing of the Philippine National Anthem, the messages of President Benigno S. Aquino III and Foreign Affairs Secretary Albert F. del Rosario were read. The ceremony was followed by a Filipino breakfast hosted by Ambassador and Madame Wong.
The Samahan ng Mga Pilipino sa Cambodia (SAMAPI), the only Filipino community organization in Cambodia, held its annual celebration of Philippine Independence Day on July 10 at Diamond Island in Phnom Penh. In addition to talent and entertainment features, SAMAPI also held awards ceremonies for the winners in recently concluded SAMAPI-sponsored sports competitions.
