Phl Embassy in Buenos Aires Celebrates Independence Day with Deputy Speaker Remulla and Friends

9 August 2012 - The Philippine Embassy in Buenos Aires celebrated the 114th Anniversary of the Declaration of Philippine Independence on June 17 at its new chancery with Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives Congressman Jesus Crispin Remulla and his wife, Mrs. Jip Remulla, as the Embassy's guests of honor, together with the members of the Filipino community in Argentina and Uruguay.

The celebrations began with a thanksgiving mass, followed by a short program, and luncheon at the chancery.

During the program, Ambassador Rey A. Carandang and Consul General Arvin R. De Leon read the Independence Day messages from the President and the Secretary of Foreign Affairs, respectively.

Deputy Speaker Remulla also delivered a brief speech highlighting the shared commonalities between the Philippines and Argentina particularly in culture, religion, and history. He also emphasized the importance of nationalism and working together to achieve progress and prosperity.

After the event, several members of the Filipino community sent text messages or e-mailed the Embassy personnel to convey how much they enjoyed the celebration. It was a heartwarming recognition of the Embassy's efforts to maintain close and supportive relations with the Filipino community in Argentina. END
