Philippine Embassy in Paris Celebrates the 151st Anniversary of the Birth of Dr. Jose Rizal

27 June 2012- Philippine Ambassador to France Cristina G. Ortega, along with the officers and staff of the Philippine Embassy in Paris, led commemoration activities during the 151st anniversary of the birth of Dr. Jose Rizal at the chancery premises last June 19.

Also in attendance were officers and members of the Filipino community, particularly from the four chapters in Paris of the Order of the Knights of Rizal (OKOR), the Las Damas de Rizal and Kababaihang Rizalista, Inc.

After the raising of the Philippine flag, a brief program immediately followed.

During her remarks, Ambassador Ortega highlighted the need for every Filipino to constantly take to heart Dr. Jose Rizal's call for unity among all Filipinos.

At around 10:30 am, Ambassador Ortega led Embassy personnel, OKOR, Las Damas de Rizal, Kababaihang Rizalista, Inc. and Filipino community officers and members in offering flowers at the Place Jose Rizal in the 9th Arrondissement of Paris.

To cap the daylong activities, the Filipino community was treated to an evening film showing of the GMA7-produced documentary "Pluma" on the life of Dr. Rizal.

After the film showing, Consul Deena Joy Amatong hosted a trivia quiz show about the film and the life of our national hero.

A fun-filled atmosphere permeated as the audience competed to answer the questions, and get a shot at the prizes at stake. END
