Phl Consulate General, Laguna Association of Guam Lead Celebration of Dr. Rizal’s Birth Anniversary

6 July 2012- The Philippine Consulate General in Agana, in cooperation with the Laguna Association of Guam (LAG), commemorated the 151st birth anniversary of National Hero Dr. Jose P. Rizal with a flag-raising and wreath-laying ceremony.

The event was held on June 19 at the official residence of the Consul General in Jonestown, Tamuning, where a bust of Dr. Rizal stands.

The said bust was donated by LAG to the Philippine Government in 2008. The shrine was also recently renovated through the efforts of the said association.

The highlight of the event was the turn-over ceremony of the donation of replicas of the original manuscripts of Dr. Rizal's Noli Me Tangere and El Filibusterismo by the Laguna Association of Guam to the University of Guam, the Guam Community College and the Guam Public Library.

Dr. Helen Whippy, Senior Vice President of the University of Guam, and Ms. Carmen K. Santos, Acting President of the Guam Community College, accepted the donation on behalf of their respective institutions, while Acting Governor Tenorio accepted the donation on behalf of the Guam Public Library.

Other distinguished guests during the ceremony included members of the 31st Guam Legislature led by Vice Speaker Benjamin Cruz, members of the Consular Corps, members of the business community and officers and members of other Filipino associations. END
