PHL Consulate General Leads Celebration of 27th Anniversary of EDSA People Power Revolution in Guam

26 February 2013 - The Philippine Consulate General in Agana, led by Acting Head of Post, Consul Edgar Tomas Q. Auxilian, commemorated the 27th Anniversary of the EDSA People Power Revolution with a flag-raising ceremony on February 25 at the 3rd Floor of the ITC Building in Tamuning.

The simple ceremony was highlighted by a short program that included a rendition of Bayan Ko” by Ms. Shirley Trinidad and playing of video documentaries entitled “Ninoy: The Heart and Soul” and “Puso at Diwa ni Ninoy” during the traditional breakfast.

Consul Auxilian delivered the welcome remarks. He expressed his warm appreciation to Guam Lt. Gov. Ray Tenorio, Speaker Judi Won Pat and other Senators of the 32nd Guam Legislature, the members of the Consular Corps in Guam, and other guests from the Filipino community, for joining the Consulate General in its celebration of the 27th anniversary of the EDSA People Power Revolution.

He explained that the EDSA People Power Revolution in February 1986 was a very important historical event as it put an end to the long autocratic rule of the Marcos administration and ushered in the restoration of democracy in the Philippines. It united the Filipinos and revived their hope and pride, as the eyes of the world were focused on the peaceful process unfolding in the Philippines during that time.

Now, 27 years later, Filipinos are full of hope again under the leadership of President Benigno S. Aquino III, with the bright prospects of the Philippines emerging as a new tiger in Asia and one of the strongest economy in the world in the years to come.

The flag-raising ceremony and the short program was attended by Guam Lieutenant Governor Ray Tenorio, Speaker Judith T. Won Pat, Senators Thomas C. Ada, Frank B. Aguon,Jr., Dennis G. Rodriguez, Jr., V Anthony Ada of the 32nd Guam Legislature, former Senator Judith Guthertz of the 31st Guam Legislature, members of Consular Corps headed by Consul General Jae Hyun Shin of South Korea, Consul General Jeff Kenty of Palau and Consul General Robert Ruecho of Federated States of Micronesia and Mayor John Cruz of Hagatna.

Other guests include Guam Government officials, members of the business community, officers and members of the Filipino Community of Guam (FCG), other Filipino organizations in Guam and media friends. END
