2 February 2010 - The Philippine Embassy in Brunei Darussalam reported that its Philippine Overseas Labor Office (POLO) held an Orientation Seminar on its programs and services at the Sim Kim Huat (SKH) Staff House in Sengkurong on January 21.

The activity was organized by the POLO under Labor Attaché Elizabeth O. Recio, in coordination with Filipino Association of Brunei (FAB) Secretary and SKH Human Resource Manager Rose N. Cortez and FAB Treasurer and SKH Head Accountant Mr. Rudy Adducul.

The seminar for the SKH Filipino workers was held to provide a better understanding of the various services available at the Philippine Embassy, particularly on labor and welfare services, Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA)/Social Security System (SSS)/Pag-ibig membership coverage, and provide on-site issuance of Philippine Overseas Employment Administration (POEA) Overseas Employment Certificates (OEC).

The different POLO programs and services provided by the Embassy were also discussed, such as: (1) labor and financial literacy programs by Labor Attaché Elizabeth O. Recio; (2) programs and services offered by OWWA such as membership renewal, insurance coverage, educational and training benefits and livelihood loan programs, by Welfare Officer Zenaida Ramos; and (3) updates SSS membership promotion and coverage, by SSS Representative Ms. Marivic Rutor.

Some of the concerns raised during the open forum were clarification on membership coverage, qualification on loan programs, Pag-Ibig loans and PhilHealth membership.

The orientation seminar was the first of a series of planned visits to various staff houses of Filipinos working in Brunei Darussalam for 2010. END
