08 February 2010 - The body of an overseas Filipino trapped in the rubble of a supermarket in Haiti was found yesterday morning (Haiti time), according to the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA).

The remains of Mary Grace Fabian was pulled out of the collapsed Carribean Supermarket at 11 AM of February 7 in Haiti (12AM of February 8 in Manila), according to a report from Lieutenant Colonel Lope Dagoy, Commander of the 10th Philippine Peacekeeping Contingent.

Ms. Fabian's remains was recovered by the Central National Equipment Retrieval team, assisted by some members of the Philippine contingent headed by Corporal Eric Dedales and Senior Navy Officer I Carlo Dangcalan.

She was positively identified by Mr. Lowel Lalican, the husband of Geraldine Lalican, another OFW still trapped under the rubble of the supermarket.  Ms. Fabian, an employee of the Carribbean supermarket, was identified through her uniform, hair and necklace.

Her sister Rosalyn Fabian decided to immediately bury her remains at the National Cemetary in Port-au-Prince.

Ms. Fabian's remains was recovered three weeks after a 7.0 magnitude earthquake struck Haiti on January 12.

The Philippine contingent in Haiti is currently securing the Carribean Supermarket area and is continuing recovery efforts for Ms. Lalican.

Philippine Honorary Consul to Haiti Fitzgerald Brandt is supervising the recovery efforts.

Earlier, the DFA welcomed the fifth and last batch of 32 Filipinos repatriated from Haiti last Friday morning at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport.  A total of 63 Filipinos have been repatriated. END
