The Philippines condemns the nuclear test carried out by the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (DPRK) today, 12 February 2013.

The nuclear test by the DPRK clearly violates UN Security Council Resolutions 1695 (2006), 1718 (2006) and 1874 (2009) which demanded that the DPRK not conduct any further nuclear tests.

The Philippines deplores the series of acts of the DPRK that have violated these UN Security Council Resolutions.

The Philippines joins its international partners in urging the DPRK to desist from continuing these acts of provocation and to abandon all nuclear weapons and programs, as committed to in the 19 September 2005 Joint Statement, in the interest of genuine confidence-building towards peace and stability in the Korean Peninsula and the Asia Pacific Region.
