13 March 2010 - Secretary of Foreign Affairs, Dr. Alberto G. Romulo, called on the Human Rights Council to enhance international partnership, capacity-building and dialogue on human rights in order to fulfill its mandate to promote and protect all human rights. He made the call when he delivered on 2 March 2010 the Philippine national statement at the human rights body's High-Level Segment.
Secretary Romulo pledged the continued support of the Philippines to the work for the Human Rights Council, of which it was a founding member. The Philippines served as its Vice-President last year and plays a constructive role in the Council through the Philippine Permanent Mission in Geneva. Romulo announced the Candidature of the Philippines for re-election to the Human Rights Council for the period of 2011-2013, and in this regard, highlighted Philippine progress and initiatives on human rights at the national, regional and international levels.
