Pushkin Statue Unveiled

30 January 2010 - The bronze statue of Russian national poet Alexander Pushkin was unveiled today at the Mehan Garden in Manila to celebrate the friendship between the Philippines and Russia.

The statue was donated by sculptor Grigory Potosky, who was present during the occasion.  Mr. Pototsky is a member of the International Union of Artists at the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), and has participated in more than 100 exhibitions since 1985.  His works are found in many countries aside from Russia.

Two Filipinas Saved from Death Penalty in Saudi Arabia Arrive in Manila today

Tejano_and_Sakilan29 January 2010 - Foreign Affairs Secretary Alberto G. Romulo received two overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) who were saved from the death sentence in Saudi Arabia through the personal intercession of President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo.

Idan Tejano and Marjanna Sakilan arrived from Jeddah via Qatar Airways at around 3:35 p.m., accompanied by Philippine Ambassador to Saudi Arabia Antonio P. Villamor.  On hand to welcome them were Executive Director Enrico Fos of the DFA Office of the Undersecretary for Migrant Workers Affairs (DFA-OUMWA) and DFA-OUMWA Principal Assistant Maurice Tiempo.
