DFA Hosts Delegation from Thai House of Representatives

26 February 2013 – The Office of ASEAN Affairs of the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA), led by Assistant Secretary Teresita V.G. Barsana, hosted officials from the Secretariat of the House of Representatives of Thailand for a briefing on ASEAN matters today, February 26.

Assistant Secretary Barsana updated the Thai delegation on Philippine initiatives under the three pillars of ASEAN – the ASEAN Political-Security Community (APSC), ASEAN Economic Community (AEC) and ASEAN Socio-Cultural Community (ASCC) – in pursuit of an ASEAN Community by 2015.

The 25-member Thai delegation was headed by Deputy Secretary General of Thailand’s House of Representatives Mrs. Pannipa Sermsree. In a show of appreciation for the visit, Assistant Secretary Barsana presented Mrs. Sermsree with Php50 bills printed with the ASEAN logo, an initiative of the DFA in 2012 to promote awareness of ASEAN. PHL Attends 15th ASEAN-India Senior Officials’ Meeting

26 February 2013 – Foreign Affairs Undersecretary Erlinda F. Basilio headed the Philippine delegation to the 15th ASEAN-India Senior Officials’ Meeting (SOM) on February 21 and the Delhi Dialogue V on February 19 to 20 in New Delhi.

The ASEAN-India SOM, which discussed various areas of ASEAN-India cooperation, was the first following the elevation of their relationship to a Strategic Partnership at the ASEAN-India Commemorative Summit held in December 2012 in New Delhi. END
