4 February 2010- The Philippine Embassy in Jakarta reported to the Department of Foreign Affairs that Minister and Consul Bernardita L. Catalla, representing H.E. Vidal Erfe Querol and the Filipino community of Indonesia (FILCOMIN), turned over three boxes containing 339 books to Dr. Sani Palestina Samosir, Headmaster of Sekolah Menengah Pertama Negeri 1 (SMPN1), a national junior high school located in Karang Bahagia, Bekasi, West Java.
The donation consists of books on science, mathematics, geography, English, fiction, teaching methodologies, general materials and CDs of ASEAN Quest, a computer game set on ASEAN designed for students.
The school's library was renovated and refurbished under a joint project of the Philippine Embassy and the Filipino Community of Indonesia in celebration of 60 years of bilateral relations between the Philippines and Indonesia.
In November 2009, the Philippines-Indonesia Friendship Library was inaugurated and turned over to the school officials of SMPN1.
The Philippine Embassy solicited book donations from the local community and received a generous response from the Jakarta International School.
Dr. Sani Palestina Samosir received the books and expressed her sincere gratitude. "The books would be very useful for both students and teachers, as well as for the people of Karang Bahagia community''. END.
