Tourism Undersecretary Calls on Director General of Guangdong Tourism Administration

18 March 2013 - Undersecretary Daniel G. Corpuz of the Department of Tourism (DOT), along with Consul General Raly L. Tejada, Tourism Attaché Gerardo Panga, and personnel from the DOT, Philippine Consulate General in Guangzhou and Philippine Tourism Office-Shanghai met with officials of the Guangdong Provincial Tourism Administration, headed by Director General Rongsen Yang last March 07 in Guangzhou, China.

During the meeting, Undersecretary Corpuz cited the province of Guangdong as an important market for the Philippine tourism industry. He stated that the scheduled operation of Philippine Airlines, the country’s flag carrier, this year is expected to expand tourism exchange between Manila and Guangzhou. In 2012, around 59,000 tourists from Guangdong visited the Philippines.

Director General Yang, on the other hand, expressed appreciation for the participation of the Philippines in the Guangzhou International Travel Fair (GITF) 2013 and, likewise, invited the Philippines to participate in the China (Guangdong) International Tourism Exhibition (CITIE) which will be held in September 2013. He commended the Philippines for improving its tourism facility and for attaching great importance to tourists from Southern China. He likewise stated that Guangdong will support the Philippine Government in carrying out its tourism promotion campaign in the province, and hopes that discussions in various fields could help strengthen cooperation between Guangdong and the Philippines.
