Filipino Selected as San Francisco’s Newest Commissioner

Sanfo_Picture16 February 2010 - The Philippine Consulate General in San Francisco said that Filipino-American community leader Alfonso S. Perez, Jr. was recently appointed as San Francisco Entertainment Commissioner by Mayor Gavin Newsom in December 2009.

The seven-member commission has over-all oversight of San Francisco's entertainment industry and has the power and duty to accept, review and conduct hearings for entertainment-related permit applications.

Director Brillante Mendoza Holds Film Retrospective in Berlin

16 February 2010 - The Philippine Embassy in Berlin reported to the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) that internationally acclaimed award-winning Filipino film Director Brillante Mendoza, a guest of the German Movie and Film Academy (Deutsche Film-und Fernsehakademie (dffb), the Cinema Arsenal (Kino Arsenal) and Friends of the German Cinema Film Collection (Freunde der deutschen Kinemathek), opened a retrospective of his films at the Cinema Arsenal on 6 February 2010. The Mendoza Retrospective marks the third successful year of Philippine independent film participation in the annual Berlin International Film Festival (Berlinale).
