
26 June 2010 - The Philippine Embassy in Canada reported that it celebrated the 112th Annivesary of the Declaration of Philippine Independence with the Filipino community with a flag ceremony and a breakfast on June 12 and a grand ball on June 18.
Philippine Ambassador Jose S. Brilliantes led the flag-raising ceremony at the Ambassador's official residence, attended by Embassy officers and staff, and members of the Filipino community.
A food booth, dubbed "Tanghaling Almusalan sa Tahanang Rizal", served sinangag, tapa, itlog, puto, kutsina, siopao, turon, and other Filipino breakfast and merienda delicacies.
The Filipino community organized a grand ball held at the Chateau Cartier Hotel, which was highlighted with Filipino songs, mini-dramas and poems.The grand ball also celebrated the 149th Birth Anniversary of Jose Rizal.
Meanwhile, the Embassy commemorated Rizal's birthday with a wreath-laying ceremony on June 19.
The ceremony was held in Gatineau City Hall, which houses a bust of the Philippine national hero. END
