Filipino Community in Mozambique Celebrates Independence Day 2010

Pretoria_Indep_Day_2010_celeb28 June 2010 - The Philippine Embassy in South Africa joined the Filipino community in Maputo, Mozambique during their celebration of the 112th Anniversary of the Proclamation of Philippine Independence at the Maputo International School on 19 June 2010.

Chargé d'affaires, a.i. (CDA) Eric R. Aquino represented Ambassador Mario L. de Leon, Jr., who is in Manila.  He was accompanied by Embassy staff and their families during the event.

The Philippine Independence Day commemoration was spearheaded by the Filipino Community of Mozambique (FILCOMOZ) headed by its President, Ms. Wilma Bayaua.

Most Filipinos work in Mozambique as primary and secondary school teachers in the country's private schools.

The program began with Ms. Bayaua welcoming guests and participants, followed by CDA Aquino reading the Independence Day message of President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo.

The program continued with the members of the community performing several cultural numbers, and culminated with a sumptuous buffet dinner of Filipino food.  END
