
8 September 2010 - The Philippine Consulate General in Chicago reported that the Philippines was represented at the Tall Ships Chicago 2010 Festival at the Navy Pier on August 24 to 29.
More than 20 historic sailing vessels from around the globe converged in Navy Pier during this six-day festival.
In addition to the many nautical offerings of on-board tours, boat trips, and vendor booths, the visitors enjoyed nightly fireworks and entertainment including concerts, circus performers, and a children's village.To celebrate Chicago's rich and magnificent cultural diversity, Navy Pier featured ethnic music and dance groups selected by Chicago-area Consulates throughout the festival.
Japan, Colombia, Peru, Canada, India, Bolivia, Macedonia, Guatemala, Czech Republic, Venezuela, West Africa, Poland, Serbia, Norway, Thailand, Mexico, Germany, Ecuador and Lithuania also graced the "World Stage" of the Navy Pier's historic Grand Ballroom.
On the fourth day of the festival, Filipino folk fusion band SamaSama Project showcased a number of Filipino traditional music and OPMs (Original Filipino Music).
With them was the Hawak Kamay group who entertained visitors with their folk dances from the Philippines.
The groups were there to represent the Filipino community.
Together with the Filipino-American community, the Consulate's Cultural Officer Berth D. Salvador showed their support to the Filipino performers and attended the said event.
