DFA Coordinating with Canadian Embassy on Five Canadian Passport Holders among Hostage Victims

25 August 2010 - The Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) is closely coordinating with the Embassy of Canada in Manila on the status of five tourists from the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region who held Canadian passports and were among the hostages last August 23.

After consultations with the Canadian Embassy, it was confirmed that five of the hostages are Canadian passport holders.  They are:
  1. NG, Amy Yau Woon
  2. LEUNG, Doris Chung See
  3. LEUNG, Song Yi Jessie
  4. LEUNG, Jason Song Xue
  5. LEUNG, Ken Kam Wing

Ms. Ng and Mr. Jason Leung were injured while the remaining three Canadian passport holders lost their lives and will be repatriated to Hong Kong today.

The DFA assured the Canadian Embassy of full consular access and assistance to their nationals and have facilitated the establishment of lines of communications between the embassy and the Philippine National Police.

In a statement issued by Lawrence Cannon, Canada's Minister of Foreign Affairs, offered Canada's condolences to those affected by the recent hostage-taking incident on a bus in Manila, adding that Canada welcomes the assurances of the Philippine Government to conduct a full investigation on the incident.  END
