TRAVEL ADVISORY FOR FILIPINO PERMANENT RESIDENTS OF CANADA

The Department of Foreign Affairs is reminding Filipino permanent residents of Canada who wish to visit the Philippines this Lenten season to bring with them their valid Permanent Residence Card or original, not certified, copy of their Record of Landing (Form IMM1000).

Having one of these documents will ensure them that they will be allowed by Canadian Immigration to re-enter Canada. In the absence of aforementioned documents, they should apply for a travel document from the Canadian Immigration prior to their travel abroad. The travel document is a visa-like label placed in the passport.

According to the DFA, any one of the 3 acceptable proofs of permanent residency (i.e. Permanent Residence Card; original Form IMM1000; or travel document) has been required by airlines in boarding Canadian permanent residents since the application of the new Canadian Immigration and Refugee Protection Act in June 2002.

In case a Filipino permanent resident of Canada lost his permanent residence document, the DFA said that he should immediately contact the nearest Canadian Embassy and request for a travel document.

In the Philippines, the Canadian Embassy can be reached by telephone at (63-2) 867-0002 or by mail at 9th Floor, Allied Bank Center, 6754 Ayala Avenue, Makati, Metro Manila.
