JERUSALEM BUS BOMBING ATTACK ON PEACE; NO FILIPINOS KILLED OR INJURED - OPLE

In condemning the suicide bombing that killed 30 people and injured many others in Jerusalem, the Secretary said that the terrorist bus bombing was a direct and despicable attack on peace.

"We condemn this dastardly attack.  The terrorist cloaked himself in religious garments to hide his evil intent.  This adds to our strong sense of outrage and condemnation," the Secretary said.

He added that Philippine Ambassador to Israel, Ambassador Belen Anota has reported that no Filipinos were killed and injured in the bus bombing. "Ambassador Anota has confirmed that no Filipinos were hurt in the
attack.  She continues to coordinate with the Filipino community in Israel to ensure their safety and protection," the Secretary said.

"This terrorist bombing is a direct and despicable attack on peace.  We grieve for the great loss of life and pray for the safe recovery of those injured.  We hope that this attack will not result in derailing the roadmap
for peace," the Secretary said.

He added that he understood how difficult things must be for those who truly wish peace in the Middle East, but that he hoped that Israel and the Palestinian Authority will remain firm in their determination to achieve lasting and meaningful peace.  The Secretary also reiterated the continuing strong support of the Philippine government for the roadmap for peace.
