RP-PERU CONCLUDE TWO AGREEMENTS
The Government of the Philippines and the Government of Peru today signed two documents: one a Protocol on the Establishment of a Bilateral Consultation Mechanism; and the other an Agreement for Scientific and Education Cooperation between the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources of the Philippines (BFAR) and the Instituto del Mar del Peru (IMARPE).
The Protocol on Bilateral Consultation Mechanism between the Department of Foreign Affairs and the Ministerio de Relaciones Exteriores del Peru seeks to promote mutual understanding and cooperation between the two countries through consultations and the exchange of ideas on bilateral and international affairs of mutual interest, including matters in the political, economic, commercial, investment, tourism, financial, industrial, scientific, cultural, educational, social, sports, technical and technological fields. Secretary Blas F. Ople signed the Protocol for the DFA while Peruvian Ambassador Jorge Chávez Soto signed for the Foreign Ministry of Peru.
The BFAR-IMARPE cooperation agreement includes, but is not limited to,
El Niño research and forecasting, oceanography and fishery research,
and the development of the fish meal industry. Agriculture Secretary
Luis P. Lorenzo, Jr. represented BFAR and Ambassador Chavez will represent
IMARPE. – END
