HIGH-LEVEL MEETING IN MARITIME SECURITY COOPERATION TO BE HELD IN
MANILA
The Department of Foreign Affairs announced today that the APEC High Level
Meeting in Maritime Security Cooperation will be held in Manila in September
this year. It will be co-hosted by the DFA’s Office of the Undersecretary
for International Economic Relations (OUIER) and the Maritime Industry Authority
(MARINA), which currently chairs the APEC Transportation Working Group.
The meeting will be open to all 21 APEC member economies with the officials
from the International Maritime Organization (IMO) and World Customs Organizations
as resource speakers.
The meeting aims to: (1) discuss the results of various maritime security
conferences held recently in APEC economies; (2) hear country presentations
on maritime security concerns; (3) discuss the costs of terrorism and ensuring
security; (4) explore areas of cooperation in maritime security; (5) exhibit
the latest maritime security technologies; and (6) engage the private sector
in a cooperative partnership to enhance maritime trade and security in the
APEC region.
