FEALAC Update

TAGAYTAY TO HOLD ART CONTEST TO PROMOTE FEALAC AWARENESS

15 January 2004 - The City of Tagaytay will be part of what is perhaps one of the country’s most significant international event as it co-hosts with Manila the 2nd Foreign Ministers’ Meeting of the Forum for East Asia and Latin America Cooperation (FEALAC) on 30 January 2004.

In preparation for the FEALAC Meeting which will be held at the Tagaytay International Convention Center and the Tagaytay Highlands and in line with the thrust of expanding the world vision and providing awareness on FEALAC among Filipino students, the City Government of Tagaytay and the Department of Education’s division of city schools for Tagaytay will jointly host the On-the-Spot Painting Contest, which will be participated by 50 students from among the City’s public and private schools.

With the theme “FEALAC: A Vision for East Asia and Latin America Convergence”, the On-the-Spot Painting Contest will be held at the Lake Garden Hotel on 25 January 2004.  The contest will have two (2) categories, the intermediate level and the high school level.  Known artists and respected residents of Tagaytay such as Popo San Pascual, and Buboy Yonzon, among others, were invited to judge the artworks of the students.

FEALAC is an association of 32 countries from East Asia and Latin America which have come together to create a new mechanism of dialogue and cooperation between the two regions.  FEALAC is based on the principles of respect for each others’ sovereignty and territorial integrity, non-interference in each other’s internal affairs, equality, mutual benefit and the common goal of development, respect and understanding for each other’s unique cultures and ways of life, and decision making by consensus.  END.
