ALBERT CONVEYS RP CONDEMNATION
OF KARACHI BOMBING TO PAKISTANI OFFICIALS;
NO FILIPINOS KILLED OR
INJURED
3 June 2004, Islamabad, Pakistan – Foreign Affairs Secretary Delia Domingo Albert today personally conveyed to Pakistani officials the Philippines’ condemnation of the bombing last Monday of a Shi'ite Muslim mosque that killed 20 people in Karachi. The Secretary is currently in Islamabad, Pakistan on an official visit.
“The Philippines strongly condemns this attack. It is an outrage against all religions,” the Secretary said.
“I would like to assure the
families and friends of Filipinos in Karachi that no Filipino was killed
or injured in this attack,” she added. There are around 300 Filipinos
in Karachi, mostly attending local Islamic schools.
The Philippines had also
condemned the 7 May 2004 suicide bomb attack on a Shi'ite mosque in central
Karachi that killed 24 worshippers.
“I understand that police
authorities have come up with important clues that could lead to the arrest
of those involved and that could also help to prevent future attacks,”
the Secretary said. END.
