DFA SCHOLARSHIP AND OTHER SUPPORT PROGRAMS
RECEIVE NEEDED
PROP AT SECRETARY ALBERT INVITATIONAL
GOLF CUP 2004
6 May 2004 - The Secretary Delia Domingo Albert Invitational Golf Cup 2004, a fund-raising golf event organized by the DFA Golfers Association held on 29 April 2004 at the Wack Wack Golf Course in Mandaluyong, gave the much-needed support for the Department of Foreign Affairs’ scholarship projects and other support programs. The funds generated will allow the grant of scholarships to low-salaried employees as well as the purchase of urgently needed equipment to modernize the communications capability of the Department.
Moved by the spontaneous response of the sponsors and donors, Foreign Affairs Secretary Delia Domingo Albert expressed profound appreciation for the support extended to ensure the success of the golf tournament. She also acknowledged the help and guidance of former President Fidel V. Ramos, an avid golfer, whose presence at the golf course gave importance to the event. The assistance of Philippine Ambassador to Laos Antonio Cabangon-Chua and his staff as well as the efforts of the DFA Golfers Association, were also underscored during the awarding ceremonies.
“I strongly believe that the real winners at this golf event are the beneficiaries – children of the DFA family, the DFA personnel for the equipment and a sustainable sport and fitness program”, the Secretary averred.
President Ramos, Ambassador Cabangon-Chua, Thai Ambassador Busba Bunnag, Mr. Ike Yusingco of San Miguel Corporation, and Federation of Golf Clubs President Mr. Ogie Manalo were among those who joined the Secretary at the ceremonial tee-off just before the shotgun start at 8:00 AM.
After the grueling event, an awarding ceremony
to winners and luncheon was hosted at the Wack Wack Clubhouse. A total
of 105 avid golf players participated in the event who subsequently raised
a clamor for a follow-up tournament to be held in Baguio City and in Mindanao.
Secretary Albert agreed that it would be a good idea to hold the Secretary’s
Cup in these places and said that she will start planning for these events.
