SECRETARY ALBERT VOWS TO PRESENT WOMEN’S CONCERNS
AT THE UPCOMING GLOBAL SUMMIT OF WOMEN IN KOREA

20 May 2004— Foreign Affairs Secretary Delia Domingo Albert will attend this year’s Global Summit of Women in Seoul, Republic of Korea on 27-29 May 2004.

For fourteen years, the Global Summit of Women has celebrated women’s leadership worldwide by bringing together women business, professional and governmental leaders from around the world for three days of discussions on mutual concerns.

Prior summits were held in Montreal, Canada (1990); Dublin, Ireland (1992); Taipei, Taiwan (1994); Miami, Florida (1997); London, U.K. (1998); Buenos Aires, Argentina (1999); Johannesburg, South Africa (2000); Hongkong, S.A.R. (2001); Barcelona, Spain (2002), and most recently, Marrakech, Morocco (2003).

“I look forward to this event which gives women from various economic sectors of their respective countries the privilege to come together in one forum and interact and learn from each other,” Secretary Albert said.  “I have extended the organizer’s invitation to our friends and other women leaders in the country to attend and strongly urge them to join me in bringing our concerns to this forum of women,” she added.

Continuing its emphasis on promoting women’s participation in the global market, the 2004 Global Summit focuses on accelerating women’s economic development with an emphasis on using technology to grow one’s business, to access other markets, and to expand one’s network.

The GSW’s dynamic quality is a product of stimulating presenters and the wealth of talent among its diverse participants.  The Summit has been the vehicle for the formation of national and regional networks, for successful business initiatives and for the sheer exchange of ideas and practices that have energized women participating in the global market. -  END
