PHILIPPINE EMBASSY IN BANGLADESH, ASEAN LADIES ASSOCIATION
EXTEND FINANCIAL SUPPORT TO FLOOD VICTIMS

25 November 2004 – The Philippine Embassy in Dhaka reported to the Department of Foreign Affairs that the with the support of the  Embassy, the ASEAN Ladies Association (ALA) in Bangladesh, headed by Ambassador Jose Lino B. Guerrero’s wife, Carlota, extended financial support worth Taka 30,000 ($600) in cash to the victims of the recent floods in Bangladesh.

The cash donation was distributed in three districts of Bangladesh by Filipino NGO volunteers, Beth Lim of IDEA Sylhet, Jamillah Managhaya of AID Comilla and Lolita Aniban of GBSS Narshingdi. They also distributed clothes, canned milk and other donations from the Filipino community in Dhaka.   The Embassy officials and staff facilitated the distribution of the food and clothing to the flood victims.

In expressing their appreciation for the assistance,   the VSO Bangladesh said the “initiative not only forged unity between the Philippines and Bangladeshi people but most importantly with other ASEAN countries through the ALA”.  END
