20 October 2004 – The Department of Foreign Affairs today announced that the ASEAN Foundation, a non-profit intergovernmental organization based in Jakarta, has a vacancy for the position Executive Director, a non-renewable three-year term.

The ASEAN Foundation was established by the ASEAN Foreign Minister in fulfillment of a decision by the ASEAN Heads of Government in 1997.  It has been tasked to lead a human resources development effort to help the peoples of ASEAN attain their full potential and contribute to the progress of the region.

The Executive Director will represent the ASEAN Foundation in all the administrative and operational matters, manage the activities and raise funds for the operation and projects of the Foundation, perform such other functions and responsibilities entrusted to him/her by the ASEAN Foundation Board of Trustees, thereby initiating plans and activities for the ASEAN Foundation.

The Executive Director must come from an ASEAN member state, should have a degree in an appropriate discipline with at least 15 years of professional experience and at least ten years at a senior level. Applicants are also expected to have necessary and relevant background on ASEAN and diplomatic practices, fluency in English and relevant experience with fund raising.   Applicants must also have established and good working relationship with the governments of the ASEAN and non-member countries, international and regional bodies, aide agencies, relevant non-governmental organizations, senior management in private sector corporations, as well as influential people in various foundations and philantrophic organizations.
