PHILIPPINE EMBASSY IN RIYADH LAUNCHES LIVELIHOOD PROGRAM FOR OFWs

20 October 2004 – Philippine Ambassador to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia Bahnarim A. Guinomla reported to the Department of Foreign Affairs the implementation of the livelihood project for female Filipino workers housed at the Philippine Embassy’s Bahay Kalinga or the Filipino Workers’ Resource Center (FWRC) in Riyadh.

In his remarks during the launching ceremony of the project, Ambassador Guinomla congratulated the Office of the Labor Attaché under Labor Attaché Manuel C. Roldan for the “refreshing changes being introduced at the Bahay Kalinga to make the waiting for the resolution of the cases of the female OFWs more bearable and productive.”

Ambassador Guinomla also promised to help the project participants sell their wares and requested Mrs. Berly Guinomla to allow OFW trainees to display their products in the bazaar held regularly by the diplomatic ladies.  On display during the launching were some finished products done by the trainees such as cross-stitch, embroidery and other handmade items.

Through the efforts of the Philippine Embassy ladies under Mrs. Guinomla, the Bahay Kalinga wards who are supervised by social worker Mrs. Bailano Adil Salik were able to sell some of their products at the Oriental Ladies Bazaar held earlier at an embassy inside Riyadh’s Diplomatic Quarter.

Meanwhile, the Ambassador also informed the DFA that a donation of foodstuff was given by members of the Filipino community to the Bahay Kalinga.  The donation was made through the Suportahan Ta Ka Project and efforts of a number of sympathetic individuals.   The Ambassador noted with thanks that that the donations will be done on a sustained and regular basis.  END.
