SECRETARY ROMULO TURNS OVER CHEQUE FOR DEATH
BENEFITS OF SLAIN FILIPINO UN PEACEKEEPER

24 August 2005 – Secretary of Foreign Affairs Alberto G. Romulo presents
a cheque representing the death benefits of slain Filipino UN peacekeeper
Staff Sergeant Antonio M. Batomalaque to his widow Merly in simple ceremonies
at the Secretary’s Office of the Department of Foreign Affairs today.
Secretary Romulo praised the late Sergeant Batomalaque, citing him as a
“true peacekeeper, who embodies the valor and innate heroism of those who
serve peace in a land of strife.” Foreign Affairs Undersecretary
for Migrant Workers’ Affairs Jose Brillantes witnesses the turnover.
