MUSICAL TALENT AND HARMONY OF THE FILIPINO COMMUNITY IN CAMBODIA PRAISED IN INDEPENDENCE DAY CELEBRATION
06 July 2005 – The Philippine Embassy in Phnom Penh reported to the Department of Foreign Affairs that the musical talent and harmony of the Filipino community in the Cambodian capital were once again shown in the different cultural activities held in celebration of the 107th Independence Day.
“The overall arrangement and cultural activities undertaken by the Embassy were highly praised by all those who attended the events especially by the members of the diplomatic community,” Charge d’Affaires Dinno M.Oblena said.
CDA Oblena reported that the highlight of the celebration was the choral concert of Koro Filipino featuring 21 Filipino singers residing in Phnom Penh held on 13 June 2005 at the Imperial Garden Villa Hotel. The choir performed several Filipino and English songs as well as Khmer song composed by King Norodom Sihanouk to the delight of more than 200 guests from the Royal Government of Cambodia, the diplomatic community and the Filipino community.
The Embassy also conducted
the traditional flag-raising ceremony on 12 June 2005, which was attended
by the officers and staff and the Filipino community organization, Samahan
ng mga Pilipino sa Cambodia (SAMAPI). The organization also hosted an Independence
Day party on 18 June 2005 at the Embassy grounds. END
