SECRETARY ROMULO COMMENDS THREE OFWs IN BRUNEI

15 March 2005—Foreign Affairs Secretary Alberto Romulo commended three OFWs in Brunei for their exemplary good values, work performance and accomplishments.

At a dinner held on 08 March 2005 at the  Ang Bahay, the official residence of Ambassador to Brunei Virginia Benavidez, Secretary Romulo praised Mr. Ibarra Caballes and Mr. Reynaldo Pintor for their acts of honesty and for projecting the positive image, good values and excellent work ethics, and Dr. Jose Santos for excellence in academic and professional pursuits.   He also
expressed the hope that the OFWs would continue representing the Philippines with pride and dignity.

Secretary Romulo also conveyed to the Filipinos in Brunei the personal greetings of President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo and also told them that during separate calls on His Majesty the Sultan, His Royal Highness the Crown Prince and His Royal Highness of the Foreign Minister, they acknowledged the vital contributions of the Filipino community to the development of Brunei.  The
Secretary likewise hoped that the awardees’ deeds would serve as examples for the rest of the community.

Secretary Romulo presented certificates of recognition to Mr. Caballes, a supervisor at the Natural Comfort Services Sdn. Bhd., for turning over money he found at the Supa Save Supermarket in Gadong; to Mr. Pintor, a building maintenance worker, for turning over a bag containing a passport, IDs, credit and bank cards while collecting trash; and Dr. Santos, a senior lecturer at the Universiti Brunei Darussalam, for his academic and professional achievements in science.

Over 100 members of the Filipino community from all four districts of Brunei and representing different organizations, religious groups, and professions were present during the dinner hosted by Ambassador  Benavidez. END
