FIVE OFWs REPATRIATED FROM BAGHDAD THANK DFA FOR
QUICK RESPONSE TO THEIR REQUEST TO COME HOME

03 May 2005 – Foreign Affairs Secretary Alberto G. Romulo received at the DFA the five OFWs who were recently repatriated from Iraq with the assistance of the Philippine Embassy in Baghdad.   Special Envoy Roy Cimatu (L), Head of the Presidential Middle East Preparedness Team, accompanied the five OFWs during the call on the Secretary.   The OFWs (2nd L-R) Ms. Imelda Talibao, Mr. Francisco Luz, Ginalyn Mejia, Sherlyn Fontanilla and Jasmine Valdez expressed their gratitude for the Department’s quick response to their request for repatriation.   On 17 April 2005, Secretary Romulo instructed Charge d’ Affaires, a.i. Ricardo Endaya of the Philippine Embassy, Baghdad to ensure the safe and immediate repatriation of  the five  OFWs, two of whom (Mr. Luz and Ms. Fontanilla) were injured on 16 April 2005 when a group of armed men fired several shots at their vehicles while they were on their way to the Baghdad International Airport.
