PHILIPPINE EMBASSY IN BEIRUT PROMOTES DUAL CITIZENSHIP IN GATHERING OF FILIPINO-LEBANESE FAMILIES
21 November 205 – The Philippine Embassy in Beirut, Lebanon reported to the Department of Foreign Affairs that it has promoted dual citizenship among Filipinos in Lebanon during the second Embassy-organized gathering of Filipino-Lebanese families, which was attended by some two hundred and fifty persons, 13 November 2005 at the Le Meridien Commodore Hotel, Hamra, Beirut.
Charge d'Affaires Nestor N. Padalhin, said that there are approximately one hundred fifty (150) such families residing in Lebanon and an equal number of children. “The idea of organizing the Filipino-Lebanese families was inspired by the passage of the Dual Citizenship Law in the Philippines in late 2003 and the fact that the marriages between Filipinos (mostly Filipino women) and Lebanese are on the rise,” he said.
Former
Filipino citizens, now holding Lebanese passports, were advised to avail
of the Dual Citizenship Law and register as an overseas absentee voter
for the 2007 Philippine election. END
