PHILIPPINE CONSULATE GENERAL IN CHICAGO CONDUCTS CONSULAR OUTREACH PROGRAM
04 October 2005 – The Philippine Consulate General in Chicago reported to the Department of Foreign Affairs that a consular outreach team headed by the Consul General rendered consular services for Filipinos and Filipino-Americans on 24 September 2005 in Southfield, Michigan.
Filipinos and Filipino-Americans residing in Southfield and surrounding areas availed themselves of the Consulate's passport services, legalization of documents, application for dual citizenship and inquiries on tourism and retirement in the Philippines. The majority of applicants for dual citizenship were senior citizens who expressed great interest in reacquiring their Philippine citizenship.
The consular outreach was held at the Philippine American Community Center of Michigan (PACCM), which celebrated its 4th year anniversary on the same day. The mission of PACCM is to promote, advance and preserve Filipino culture, tradition, values and heritage by providing services and programs for the benefit of the community at large. With about 10,000 square feet of space, the Center has been the venue of many social events and gatherings since it opened in 2001. Several rooms are designated classrooms for Paaralang Pilipino.
The day long celebration featured
cultural performances and display of Philippine arts and crafts. Consul
General Blesila C. Cabrera turned over to the Paaralang Pilipino, books
and educational materials provided by the Commission on Filipinos Overseas
(CFO). The Philippine Department of Tourism Office provided maps, brochures
and colorful posters of the Philippines, which are now on display at the
Center. END
